Course Description

The Project Management Essentials (PME) course is a journey through project management from initiation to closing of a project. It focuses on developing practical skills that can be applied to increase the level of success on projects.

Real-life stories from a variety of industries are used to illustrate key concepts and best practices. Course participants are encouraged by the instructor to share their experiences. This ensures the discussions are realistic and relevant. PME has been adapted specifically to meet the needs of First Nations with the use of custom case studies and other educational techniques. The case study project is used throughout the course, making the key concepts relatable, and resulting in easier on-the-job application.

Learners will:

  • Work in project teams to practice management tools while they experience the realistic challenges that are encountered on projects.
  • Receive a course workbook containing copies of presentation slides, case studies, exercises, and suggested solutions.
  • Receive two badges toward the Project Management Certificate upon successful completion of the six half-day sessions. Learn more about ICEC's Professional Microcredentialing here
  • Be eligible to write the Certified Project Coordinator (CPC) exam from the Project Management Association of Canada (PMAC) because this course is accredited by PMAC.
