Course Description

This course focuses on the requirements management process. Using an exercise taken from a real-life project, participants will learn how to define the problem, assess its business impact, and identify and manage stakeholders' expectations. Participants will utilize elicitation tools and techniques to uncover the underlying requirements that contribute to solutions that yield the desired outcomes. Through methods for clarifying expected deliverables and uncovering overlooked requirements, participants will be better prepared to work on projects characterized by uncertainty and high levels of change. The course will cover requirements verification, traceability, and change management techniques for both predictive and agile project environments. Participants will discover different ways to present requirements to stakeholders to maximize comprehension and encourage feedback.

In Partnership With

Project Management Essentials is delivered in partnership with Procept Associates Ltd, a Registered Education Provider accredited by the Project Management Association of Canada (PMAC) for meeting its quality standards. After completing this course, participants are eligible to write the Certified Project Coordinator (CPC) exam from PMAC.

Learning Outcomes 

Learners will gain practical skills to:

  • Utilize an enterprise requirements management framework and processes.
  • Identify impacted stakeholders and discover and define their real problems.
  • Realize and uncover real requirements using various methods and tools.
  • Create appropriate questions to ask in surveys, interviews, job shadowing, and JAD sessions.
  • Discover functional requirements that deliver business value.
  • Document requirements clearly using standard formats, including user stories and case studies.
  • Analyze, verify, and control changes to requirements.
  • Refine, manage, and control changes to requirements.
  • Use a hierarchical solution selection process to build a foundation for future requirements.
  • Conduct financial analysis of proposed solution(s) to maximize benefits realization.
  • Prioritize, select, and present the best requirements solutions to problems/opportunities and transfer practical requirements management methodology back to the workforce.
  • Transfer a practical requirements management methodology back to the workplace.

Summary

  • Number of hours: 3.5 hours/day x 2 days = 7 hours

  • Assessment: Attendance and participation are mandatory for both sessions and are monitored by the facilitator. Lack of attendance and/or participation may affect the learner's successful completion of the course. Successful completion of the course involves achieving 80% on the Final Quiz. An incomplete course will count as a fail.

  • Previous education required: The prerequisite for this course is Project Management Essentials. The remaining courses of the Project Management MicroCertificate can be taken in any order.

  • Delivery: Hybrid course with online modules and remote learning (Two half-day Zoom meetings).

  • Completion timeline: You will have access to the course for one week from the last scheduled course date.
